LANCASTER, PA (May 19, 2024) -- No. 3 Franklin & Marshall College's Lauren Pittman scored 33 seconds into the second overtime, lifting the hosting Diplomats to an 11-10 win in the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament Quarterfinals at Shadek Stadium on the campus of F&M.
F&M (18-3) will advance to Salem, VA to take on No. 1 Middlebury College Friday afternoon at Roanoke College in the NCAA Semifinals, while William Smith College and Salisbury University will play in the other semifinal.
The Jumbos (16-4) led 9-3 early in the third quarter after an
Allie Zorn goal at the 11:57 mark, but the Diplomats rattled off four straight before
Emma Joyce scored on a free position shot at the 3:35 mark of the third quarter to make it 10-7.
That would be the final goal of the game for Tufts, as the Jumbos gave up three goals in the final 4:29 of the game to tie the game at 10 going to overtime. The tying goal came after multiple stops by Tufts, but Devyn Crone pushed in a shot with six seconds to go.
Tufts picked up the initial draw control of overtime, but couldn't take advantage as the Diplomats forced a turnover. F&M had a great chance in the end of the first overtime, but junior
Pascale de Buren made a great save on a free position shot to sent the game to double overtime.
In the second extra session, F&M got the first draw control and Pittman scored unassisted to send the Diplomats to the next round. Tufts trailed 3-2 after the first quarter, but rattled off six in the second quarter with a pair apiece from junior

Emma Joyce and sophomore
Elsa Schutt to lead 8-3 after 30 minutes.
Tufts was making its fifth quarterfinal appearance in program history and fifth straight dating back to 2019.
Joyce led the Jumbos in her final game in the Brown and Blue, as she finished with four goals on eight shots. Zorn posted two points on a goal and an assist, and
Ella Lesperance assisted on two scores while scooping up five ground balls.
Senior
Madeline Delaney had a team-high five ground balls while adding a caused turnover, and sophomore
Nicola Donlan had two ground balls and a caused turnover. Senior Nicola Sommer also had two grounders while de Buren finished with a career-high 13 saves.
F&M held a slight 33-32 edge in shots on the day, while Tufts earned a 21-12 edge in ground balls. Gillian Brennan posted six goals to lead the Diplomats, and Lane Lambeth finished with two goals and two caused turnovers.
Franklin & Marshall makes their 10th trip to the NCAA Final Four.
