VAIRES-SUR-MARNE, FRANCE (August 30, 2024) - Tufts University junior
Alex Flynn and the United States Para Rowing Mixed Coxed Four team won their heat this morning at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
Rowing from the third seat, Flynn helped the US team to a time of 6:57.18 over the 2000 meter course. The US won the five-team second heat, finishing five seconds ahead of second-place France (7:02.13). Both teams advanced to Sunday's final.
From Heat 1, Great Britain was first (6:43.68) and Germany second (6:56.84) with both teams moving on to Sunday's final. A repechage race for the teams that did not qualify for the final out of the heats - Australia, Brazil, China, Italy, Korea and Spain - will be held on Saturday. The top two teams there will earn spots into Sunday's final.
In today's race, the US was second behind Australia at the 500-meter mark. However, they pulled into first place during the next 500 meters and by the 1500-meter mark they had an advantage of over five seconds. They maintained that lead throughout the rest of the race to earn their spot in the final.
Flynn is a member of the Tufts men's rowing team. He was part of the Jumbos' third varsity eight which won at the New England Rowing Championships in May.
