Tufts' Flynn, U.S. Para Rowing Mixed Four Win Paralympics Silver Medal

VAIRES-SUR-MARNE, FRANCE (September 1, 2024) - Tufts University junior Alex Flynn won a silver medal with the U.S. Para Rowing Mixed Coxed Four at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Sunday.

Flynn rowed in the 3 seat for the U.S. team, which posted a time of 6:58.54 over the 2000-meter course. Great Britain won the gold medal with a 6:55.30 winning team, while France was the bronze medalist in a 7:03.11 finish.

Facing a Great Britain team that set a world record in the event in the heats on Friday, the Americans were out front early. Great Britain took a very slim lead at 500 meters and were able to extend that margin to 1.5 seconds halfway through the race. The contest remained close throughout the final 500 meters with Great Britain finishing with a winning margin of 3.24 seconds.

The U.S. earned a third consecutive silver medal in the mixed four with coxswain event. Joining Flynn as sliver medalists on the US team were coxswain Emelie Eldracher, Skylar Dahl in the bow seat, Gemma Wollenschlaeger in the 2-seat and Ben Washburne at stroke.

"Throughout the summer, it's been amazing – getting to know each other even better," said Flynn in a USRowing press release of the young boat of first-time Paralympians. "I've known Emelie since the 2022 world's team, and it's been crazy to see the program and the boat just grow and change. We've come a long way. It's been really amazing to have these guys with me. We all have each other's backs, and we know it."

Flynn is a member of the Tufts University men's rowing team where he rowed on the third varsity eight which won a New England Championship in 2024.
