Four Jumbos In Action at NEISA Open Singlehanded Championship

CRANSTON, RI (September 14, 2024) - Four Tufts University sailors are in action this weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Singlehanded Championship hosted by Brown University.

Sophomore Devon Owen, freshman Brayden Benesch, sophomore Gus Macaulay and sophomore Wyatt Bischoff are all competing for the Jumbos, and their scores are grouped closely together after one day of action on Saturday.

Owen is first among the Jumbos with a 76 score for 13th place out of 34 competitors. In five races on Saturday, he had a best finish of fourth. Benesch is 15th in the standings with a 78 score which includes a third-place in his third race today. Macaulay is in 17th place (83) and Bischoff is 19th so far with an 88 score.

Harvard University sophomore Robby Meek leads the regatta through Saturday. He had finishes of eighth, first, first, third and fifth on Saturday.

The first-place finisher at this weekend's NEISA Singlehanded Championship will automatically qualify for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association national championship in the event coming up later this fall. Approximately 8-10 other NEISA competitors will earn at-large national berths.

Sunday's second day of the Championship out of the Edgewood Yacht Club is scheduled to begin around 10:30 am.
