Owen's 11th-Place Finish Leads Sailing at New England Open Singlehanded Championship

CRANSTON, RI (September 15, 2024) - Sophomore Devon Owen finished 11th for Tufts University at the 2024 New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Singlehanded Championship on Sunday.

Only two races were able to be completed on Sunday due to a lack of wind. Owen was 10th and 14th out of 34 competitors overall in Sunday's races to finish the weekend (seven races total) with a 100 score. He was eight points behind 10th-place finisher Norman Cartwright from Roger Williams University (92).

Tufts had four entries at the NEISA Singlehanded regatta overall. Freshman Brayden Benesch finished in 19th place with a 130 score, sophomore Wyatt Bischoff took 20th with a 131 score and sophomore Gus Macaulay was 22nd with a 134 total score.

Sophomore Robby Meek from Harvard University won the New England Singlehanded title with an 18 score. He earns an automatic berth into the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Open Singlehanded Championship coming up in November. At large berths to Nationals, including several from New England, will be announced later this season.
