CLINTON, NY (September 21, 2024) - The seventh-ranked Tufts University field hockey team continued its impressive play today with a dominating 3-0 win at #24-ranked Hamilton College in NESCAC action.
Tufts, now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the league, finished with wide advantages in shots (26-4) and corners (18-3). The Jumbos have now won four straight games overall. All-American
Andrea DelGiudice scored two of the Tufts goals and now has eight in the teams six games.
Hamilton, which came into today with two straight wins, drops to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in NESCAC.
After a first quarter in which they led 3-1 in shots and 2-0 on corners, Tufts really took over in the second. Just 90 seconds into the period they would strike first on a corner. From the right side
Kayleigh McDonald inserted out to
Claire Casey, who moved the ball down to
Kylie Rosenquest. She took a few dribbles towards goal and then zipped a pass over to an open DelGiudice in the middle of the circle and she fired one home.
Less than two minutes later, Tufts would capitalize on a corner again. The insert by McDonald was settled by
Lainie Pearson for DelGiudice to drive into the cage for a 2-0 Jumbo lead.
Tufts' most dominant quarter was the third, though they did not score in that frame. The Jumbos earned eight corners in the third and attempted 11 shots. Hamilton goalie Kelly Janssen was sharp, making eight saves in the quarter.
The Jumbos would cap the scoring in the first five minutes of the final quarter. Again on a corner, McDonald sent a short insert to
Claire Gavin on the left where she drove a pass towards the goal mouth with junior
Hannah Biccard deflecting it in.
Hamilton would have its best quarter in the fourth, when they put three of their four shots on goal. The Continentals earned back-to-back corners four minutes into the frame and put shots on, but Tufts goal a save from goalie
Lydia Eastburn and a defensive save from DelGiudice to help preserve the shutout.
Eastburn made three saves total to earn the shutout, her third of the year and seventh of her career. Janssen stopped 14 shots in the Hamilton cage.
Tufts returns home to face fifth-ranked Babson College on Tuesday.
