MEDFORD, MA (September 28, 2024) -- The Tufts University men's tennis team saw three of its four doubles' squad move into the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional semifinals, while senior
Vuk Vuksanovic also will play Sunday in the singles' draw after two wins on Saturday
The domination in doubles for the Jumbos saw
Lachie Macintosh and
Nico Tremblay win twice Saturday, while
Javier Gonzalez and
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and the pair of
Sacha Maes and
Alex Ganchev also earned two victories to slide into the semifinals.
Macintosh and Tremblay started the day with an 8-7 (3) win over Mark Kneiss and Jackson Codd of Bowdoin College in the Round of 16, and then defeated Dylan Walters and Daniel Shemesh of Brandeis University 8-7 (5) in the quarterfinals.
Gonzalez and Mastrogamvrakis knocked off JT Bilski and Harry Collomb of Wesleyan University 8-7 (3) and then followed that up with an 8-4 win over Hugh Hentschel and Neal Epstein of Middlebury, and will play MacIntosh and Tremblay Sunday at 9 a.m. for a spot in the finals.
On the bottom of the bracket, Ganchev and Maes defeated Albert Hu and Ethan Ohm of Amherst College 8-4, and the would knock off the No. 2 seed and teammates
Derin Acaroglu and Vuksanovic 8-7 (4). The pair will now play Max Litton and Max Lustgarten of Wesleyan in the other semifinal.
In the singles' draw, Vuksanovic started the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Nikky Kondamuri of Middlebury in the Round of 16, and then played an all-time battle in the quarterfinals as he outlasted Ed Opie of Amherst 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Vuksanovic will play Jake Cohen of Colby College after conclusion of doubles in the morning.
Ganchev knocked off No. 3 seed Andreas Sillaste 6-2, 6-0 in the Round of 16 but would fall in the quarterfinals 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 to MIT's Kailas Kahler.
In the "B" draw, junior
Andrej Djokic moved into the semifinals thanks to two wins Saturday. He started with an 8-4 win over Albert Hu of Amherst, followed by a 7-5, 6-3 straight set win over Siddharth Marathe from MIT. He will take on Brett Keeling of Wesleyan University Sunday.
The third and final day of play at Tufts will start at 9 a.m. on the Tufts Tennis Courts.
