BRUNSWICK, ME (September 7, 2024) - The Tufts University men's cross country team started its 2024 season at the CBBT Opener hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday morning.
Several of Tufts' top returning runners did not compete at the race. The Jumbos had some fine performances though, led by sophomore
Jacob Fippin. He crossed the finish line first for the Jumbos with an eighth-place finish overall among 58 total runners. He had a time of 18:54.4 over the 6000-meter course.
The Jumbos were fourth as a team in the competition against host Bowdoin, Bates College and Colby College. Tufts' top five earned a team score of 82, while Colby won the event with a 25 score. Colby College senior Gordon Doore won the race in 18:30 flat.
In his collegiate debut, Tufts sophomore transfer
Aidan Max placed just outside of the top 10 in 11th place with a 19:19.3 mark. Freshman
Gabe Grove also had a solid debut in 16th place (19:27.3).
Also scoring for the Jumbos this morning were sophomores
Sam Kurian (23rd) and
Meba Henok (31st). They recorded 19:49.1 and 20:01.5 times, respectively.
Rounding out the Jumbo line-up were freshman
Lucas Chang at 20:08.5 for 38th place, sophomore
Ryan Regan at 20:24.8 in 46th place and junior
Matt Burdulis (20:52.9 for 54th).
The Jumbos will run next at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University on September 21.
