Men's Swimming & Diving Takes 111-97 Win at Bates College

LEWISTON, ME (January 24, 2025) – The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team edged NESCAC rival Bates College 111-97 in the team's full return to action on Friday night.

Tufts received a good challenge from a Bobcat team that was fourth-place at the NESCAC Championships last season. Both teams won six events this evening. The Jumbos received two victories each from seniors Eric Lundgren and Cameron Yuen and sophomore Dan Godino.

Lundgren set his career-best of 22.60 seconds to win the 50 butterfly. He also was first in the 50 backstroke at 23.02 seconds. Tufts went 1-2-3 in the 50 back, with senior Brian Uribe (25.06) and sophomore Evan Wang (25.25) backing up Lundgren.

Godino won the two longest freestyle events of tonight's meet. He had the Jumbos' first victory in the 200 freestyle at 1:43.19 and later took first in the 500 free with a 4:41.07 race.

Yuen had the top scores in two lightly-contested diving events. His 263.18 mark was first in one-meter, ahead of sophomore teammate Jay Wilkinson (227.10). Yuen was then the only competitor in the three-meter contest and scored a 284.55, just below the NCAA qualifying mark (285).

Tufts was second in both relays tonight. The 400 medley group of Lundgren, senior Emmett Adams, freshman Nicolas Tudoras and sophomore Jan Springer combined on a 3:20.52 time. Then to close the meet in the 200 freestyle relay, senior Alex Gu, Adams, graduate student Eli Houlton and sophomore Will Kaminski timed 1:23.39 as runners-up.

Adams (25.39 in the 50 breaststroke), Gu (21.59 in the 50 freestyle) and Houlton (46.42 in the 100 freestyle) all had individual second-place finishes. Freshman Ryan Manson was also runner-up in the 500 free at 4:46.02, as was sophomore Jack Nussbaum in the 200 individual medley (1:54.52).

Other third-place finishes went to Springer in the 50 free with his time of 21.79 seconds and Montfort in the 100 free in 46.62 seconds (a PR).

For Bates, Marrich Somridhivej and Maximillian Cory won the 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, respectively. They were both also part of Bates' winning 400 medley relay and 200 freestyle relays.

Tufts will celebrate Seniors Day tomorrow prior to their meet against MIT at Hamilton Pool. Nine Jumbos will be recognized in their final home meet.
