Hockey Defeated 2-1 by Albertus Magnus College in Tampa

TAMPA, FL (January 4, 2024) - Albertus Magnus College sophomore Kyle Dann scored a goal and set up the other as the Falcons earned a 2-1 victory over Tufts University in the consolation game of the Tampa College Hockey Invitational on Saturday.

The Jumbos will come home with a 4-6-1 overall record and will return to action on January 17 at home in a NESCAC game against Hamilton College. Albertus Magnus improves to 5-5-1 with today's victory.

Following a scoreless first period, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the second. After a strong fore-check gained possession for Albertus, Dann put a shot on goal from a deep angle on the right side. The puck rebounded nicely to Caden Pattison in front of the goal and he shoveled in a back-hander for the 1-0 lead.

Tufts had a 24-17 advantage in shots after two periods, but Falcon goalie Matt Lenz stopped every Jumbo attempt up to that point.

Into the third, the Falcons extended their lead just a minute and a half into the frame. Paden Hicks broke out of their zone with a two-on-one and dropped a pass to the trailer Dann and he scored for a 2-0 Albertus advantage.

Tufts however was able to get the critical next goal three minutes later. During a three-on-two break Cole Dubicki from the right side sent a long pass through the zone to Trace Norwell on the left side who rifled a shot past Lenz for his fifth goal of the year.

That would be all Tufts could muster though, as Lenz finished with 30 saves including a blocker stop on Tufts' last shot by Brennan Horn with three seconds left.

The Jumbos had pulled goalie Tade Carman (29 saves) with 35 seconds left in regulation.
