The win is the ninth in a row for Tufts, who improved to 12-2 overall. Eight different players scored points for the Jumbos tonight, including two goals by
Hannah Biccard. She now has 13 goals for the season. The Nor'Easters dropped to 10-7 with the loss.
Starting play in the first quarter, Tufts moved the ball upfield quickly with passes from
Eleanor Luft, to
Eleanor Helm, to
Reagan Malo over to
Ellie Wilkins at the right of the goal. Her shot was saved by UNE's Greta Jennison, but Biccard scored on the rebound just 34 seconds into the game.
Less than a minute later, Tufts took a 2-0 lead on a penalty corner.
Lilly Ragusa inserted out to Luft whose shot was saved. The rebound went right to Helm and she scored at 1:23 for a quick two-goal advantage.
Tufts would be up 3-0 by the end of the first quarter. Ragusa kept the ball inbounds deep on the right side and moved past a UNE defender towards the circle. Her bouncy pass was controlled by
Hannah Murray, who turned a sent a shot into the cage with just 16 seconds remaining in the first frame.
The Nor'Easters had their first offensive moment to start the second quarter when they earned a penalty corner, but they could not get a shot off.
The Jumbos added their fourth goal, again late in the quarter. A nice combination of passes went from Wilkins, back to
Claire Casey, who sent a long ball into the middle of the circle where
Riley Schmidt controlled it and saw
Sophie Brants at the right post. Brants stuffed a shot home with 27 seconds on the clock and the Jumbos were up four at halftime.
Biccard would get her second of the game on a corner early in the third quarter. The insert by Ragusa was set up for Biccard by
Ruby Pearson, and Biccard from the top of the circle sent a screaming shot through the fray for a 5-0 Tufts advantage.
Tufts' sixth goal would come after they were awarded a penalty stroke with Casey converting late in the third.
The Jumbos made a goalie change to start the fourth, bringing in
Isabel Ginns for starter
Lydia Eastburn. The Nor'Easters put their lone shot on goal late in the period by Riley Zielinski from the deep on the right side with Ginns kicking it away. UNE then had a corner before time ran out, with a shot by Makena Valentine blocked by Tufts'
Ainsley Allen.
Shots finished 27-2 in the Jumbos' favor tonight, while Tufts earned 10 penalty corners to two for UNE.
The Jumbos will conclude their regular-season with a NESCAC game at Bowdoin College next Tuesday night.
