BRIDGEWATER, MA (October 22, 2025) -- The No. 4 ranked Tufts University women's soccer team got back into the win column on Wednesday evening, getting another shutout from junior
Gigi Edwards while three players scored in a 3-0 win over Bridgewater State University in the non-conference finale for Tufts.
It was a dominant performance for Tufts (11-1-2) on Wednesday, as the Jumbos outshot their hosts 33-3 while posting 16 corner kicks to only the three from the Bears.
The Jumbos got on the board in the 16th minute, as a hard working play by Tufts resulted in the eventual game-winner. On the play, senior
Elsi Aires denied a clearing attempt by the center back by the Bears, forcing a throw-in for the Jumbos. After the resulting restart, senior
Aoife O'Reilly crossed a ball into first-year
Claire Brady, who fired home into the left corner for her second goal of the season.
Tufts kept the pressure on over the next 20 minutes, doubling its lead at 34:08 of the game when sophomore
Maren Jones netted her third goal of the season. The lead up to the goal saw junior
Waverly Sumner win back a ball and charge into the box on the right side. Sumner played a low cross on the ground to Jones, who slid home inside the near right post for the goal.
After taking a 2-0 lead into intermission, Tufts added on another goal in the 49th minute as Aires scored off of a rebound of a shot to make it 3-0. Aires knocked in a shot from junior
Reese Birch for her seventh of the season.
Tufts had great opportunities to add on but BSU keeper Logan Levesque made a total of 12 saves in the game to hold off the Jumbos.
Aires finished with seven shots to lead all players, while Sumner added six attempts including three on goal. Brady and Birch each had five shots as well with three shots on goal.
The goal by Aires was her 37th of her career, as she jumped into No. 2 all-time alone ahead of former Jumbo standout and assistant coach Liz Reed (2017-21) and her 36 scores.
Edwards posted two saves for her sixth shutout of the season and 17th of her career. The 17 shutouts ties her for fifth-most in a career all-time at Tufts, as she pulled even with Meg McCourt (2001-04).
She is now just two clean sheets shy of fourth place held by current head coach
Martha Whiting, who had 19 from 1989-92. The seven shutouts this season eclipses her previous season-best of six set last year. She has now allowed only four goals in 962 minutes of action this season.
The Jumbos will get six days off before hosting Bowdoin College Tuesday, October 28 at 6 p.m. on Bello Field for the regular season finale.
