Women's Cross Country Seeks Strong Performance at NESCAC Championship Saturday

MEDFORD, MA (October 28, 2025) - The Tufts University women's cross country team aims to have its best performance of the season thus far on Saturday when the Jumbos run at the 2025 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship.

The Jumbos are coming off a race in which they were fourth among NESCAC squads at the Connecticut College Invitational on October 18 (10th overall). Head coach Jamie Norton and his staff have hopes that the team can improve upon that finish at NESCAC's.

"We'd like to see the women's team match or improve our third-place finish from last year at the NESCAC meet," Coach Norton said. "Beyond that, we just want to put together a good race and come out of it feeling proud of the way we executed and competed."

Williams College, the #1 Division III team in the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll last week, is the clear-cut favorite at the conference championship. Saturday's competition will feature six teams ranked in the Top 25 overall, including #9 Middlebury College, #13 Connecticut College, #17 Tufts, #18 Amherst College and #25 Bowdoin College.

For the Jumbos, Phoebe Bryar, Zui Chinchalkar, Lexi Dean, Julia Dolce, Liz Donahue, Grace Doyle, Deirdre Flanagan, Katya Henisz, Vivian Lau, Zoe Margolies, Samara McVey, Sonia Olson, Lily Simmonds, Jaclyn Turner and Kaya West are the probable starters at NESCAC's. Available as alternates will be Kayleigh Forde and Eliana Montgomery.

Donahue was 12th at last year's NESCAC race, giving her All-Conference second team honors. The top seven finishers are awarded first team, and the next seven receive second team accolades.

Tufts has won the NESCAC title once, back in 1987. Three Jumbos have won the conference crown individually - Nancy Benson in 1987, Katy O'Brien in 2006 and Danielle Page in 2021.

The Connecticut College site at Harkness Memorial State Park will host the NESCAC Championship. The men's race begins at 12:00 Noon.
