KEENE, NH (October 4, 2025) - In an incredibly tight race between the teams, the seventh-ranked Tufts University men's cross country team was edged by #9 Williams College today at the Keene State College Invitational.
Tufts had finishes of first, second, eighth, ninth and 10th for a 32 team score. Williams was one point better with finishes of third, fifth, sixth, seventh and 10th.
Jumbos
Jonah Reisner and
Cullen McCaleb went 1-2 in the eight-kilometer race individually. Reisner won the 275-man race by 14 seconds with a 24:12.3 time, his 8K career best by over 30 seconds. McCaleb was the runner-up in a 24:26.6 finish, also a PR.
Tufts had four in the top 10 overall.
Harris Gulbransen was third for the team and eighth overall with a 24:51.1 mark.
Quinn Hampson was right behind in a 24:51.7 time that was fourth for Tufts and ninth overall. Both of those marks are also career-bests.
Calvin Cummings scored fifth for the Jumbos and was 12th in the race (24:56.3).
Also in the top 20 individually for Tufts was
Luke Brennan 13th (24:58.3),
Amokrane Aouchiche 14th (24:58.5) and
Avery Smart (25:13.2) in 16th. The 2024 All-American Aouchiche was making his first start of the season.
Colby College was the third-place team today with an 89 score.
This was the second time Tufts and Williams dueled this season, with the Jumbos winning the Purple Valley Classic at Williams on September 20. The rivals are expected to meet again prior to the NESCAC Championship on November 1.
Tufts has now had the first-place individual in all three of their races so far this season. McCaleb won the George Suitor Invitational at Trinity on September 6 and the Purple Valley Classic.
