MEDFORD, MA (November 12, 2025) – The Tufts University field hockey team tied the Division III record for goals scored in an NCAA Tournament game and also broke the school record for goals in a game with an 11-0 victory over Dean College in the first round on Wednesday night at Ounjian Field.
The Jumbos (15-3) move on to the NCAA "Sweet 16" on Saturday at Bates College where they will play NESCAC foe Williams College at 2:00 PM. The Ephs defeated Vassar College 4-0 in the first round tonight.
The Dean College team, making the school's first-ever NCAA appearance in any sport, finished the season with a 16-8 record.
Tufts scored four goals in the first 6:15 of the game and was off and running.
Sophie Brants tallied three goals for the Jumbos, leading four players who scored multiple times.
Hannah Biccard,
Reagan Malo and
Lilly Ragusa each finished with two goals.
Hannah Murray and
Riley Schmidt added one each.
Also assisting a goal along with her hat trick, Brants finished with seven points. Biccard and Ragusa also assisted goals in addition to their two strikes for five-point games.
Ainsley Allen dished out two assists, while
Eleanor Helm,
Eleanor Luft and Katarin Villa had one each.
Bulldog goalkeeper Sara Gardner made 22 saves in the game, including nine in the opening quarter.
Dean attempted three shots, putting one on net. An Emily Yazzetti shot in the second quarter was kicked away by Tufts goalie
Isabel Ginns, who entered to start the second quarter.
Eleven goals in an NCAA D3 Tournament game has happened two other times, by Skidmore versus Keene State in 2013 and by Shenandoah against Westfield State in 2024.
The previous Tufts school record that was broken tonight was 10 goals against Wesleyan in September 2008.
