MALDEN, MA (November 15, 2025) -- The Tufts University men's ice hockey team finished off a perfect six-point weekend with a third-period flurry of goals, as the Jumbos struck four times to erase a 2-1 second intermission deficit to record a 5-2 victory over visiting No. 14 Trinity College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action from Malden Valley Forum Saturday afternoon.
The win pushed the Jumbos to 2-0 on the young season, but it marks the first time Tufts has started 2-0 on the year since the 2016-17 season when the Jumbos also knocked off Trinity and Wesleyan University in the first weekend of action.
The third period was the difference for the Jumbos, who trailed 2-1 going to the final 20 minutes but rallied and showed their ability to score in bunches.
Early in the frame, senior assistant captain
John Mulvihill would deadlock the game short-handed, as he put in a rebound of his own shot on the door step to make it 2-2 with 13:54 to play in regulation.
The eventual game-winning goal for the Jumbos came at the 13:50 mark of the third period, as senior
Cole Dubicki fed a perfect centering pass to the mid-slot. Junior
Ethan Ullrick received the pass and fired it home for the 3-2 lead.
Less than two minutes later, junior
Jonathan Horn tallied his second goal of the season on a great lob pass from Ullrick to send Horn in on goal alone. Horn went from his forehand to his backhand and tucked the shot home to give the Jumbos some insurance with under five minutes to play.
The finishing touch on the win would come with just under two minutes remaining, as
Marcus Sang stole the puck in the defensive zone and headed in on the empty net. Instead of shooting, he drew two defenders and fed
Eli Pilosof for the easy score to put the game away.
The third-period goal outburst was only possible due to the strong goalkeeping from senior
Gustave Bylin, who made 20 saves over the first two periods to keep the Jumbos within striking distance.
Trinity led 1-0 after the first period after a Ryan Panico goal, doubling its lead to 2-0 just over three minutes into the second period on a Spencer Korona score with the man advantage. Senior captain
Max Resnick started the comeback with a power-play goal less than two minutes later to make it 2-1 going into the third.
Tufts would do a good job on the penalty kill Saturday afternoon, killing off five of the six extra-man chances for the Bantams (0-2-0, 0-2-0 NESCAC). The Jumbos held a slight 31-26 edge in shots on goal, including a 13-4 advantage in the final frame.
Bylin finished with 24 stops between the pipes, while Devon Bobak has 26 saves in the loss for Trinity. Ullrick had two points on a goal and an assist, while Dubicki also had a pair of helpers in the win.
Tufts will be off all week before heading out on the road for the first time this season, taking on Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT Friday, November 21 at 7 p.m. in conference action.
