PROVIDENCE, RI (November 30, 2025) -- The Tufts University women's basketball team outscored host Rhode Island College 22-11 in the fourth quarter, pulling away for a 62-50 road victory over the Anchorwomen in action from The Murray Center Sunday afternoon.
The game was close for the majority of the game, which featured six lead changes and five tie scores though neither team led by more than seven in the first three quarters.
The Jumbos led by just one at 40-39 going into the fourth frame, but senior guard
Annie Aspesi nailed a triple on the first possession of the final period for Tufts to make it a four-point edge at 43-39.
After two free throws by RIC, Tufts (4-3) netted the next four points while holding the Anchorwomen without a field goal for the first 7:48 of the final period. During that stretch the Jumbos increased their lead up to as many as nine with 2:26 to play on a jumper from junior
Stella Galanes of a nice drive and kick by Aspesi.
Tufts would allow RIC (5-2) made field goals over the final 10 minutes, while Galanes poured in nine of her 13 points on the game in the fourth quarter to lead the Jumbos to the win.
The competition was back-and-forth in the first half, as RIC took its largest lead of the game of seven with 4:04 to go in the second quarter after a jumper from Abby Wager to make the score 28-21. Tufts netted the next seven points of the half capped by a triple from first-year
Abby Congdon to make it 28-28 at the break.
Rhode Island College pushed back in front by four midway through the third, but a big
Annie Ryan three gave Tufts the lead for good with 55 seconds left in the period as Tufts took its one-point edge at 40-39 going into the fourth.
Tufts was paced by Galanes on the day, as the junior finished 3-of-8 from the floor but an important 7-of-9 at the free throw link while posting a plus-16 when she was on the floor. Aspesi posted 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the win, playing a team-high 37 minutes, and newcomer
Tessa Lozner added nine points, three assists and four rebounds.
Sophomore
Claire Kolkhorst recorded seven points and seven caroms, going 3-of-6 from the field, while Congdon tallied seven points, six rebounds and three steals.
Tufts posted a big 14-4 edge in points off turnovers, taking advantage of the 19 RIC giveaways, while also recording a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint. The Jumbos also earned a 42-32 lead in the rebounding column, including 15 offensive boards on the day.
Wager finished with a game-high 21 points, recording five rebounds and seven blocks as well. RIC was 15-of-48 from the floor, making 31.3 percent overall.
The Jumbos will play its first home game of the season after seven on the road, taking on MIT at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 3 inside Cousens Gymnasium.
