SALEM, VA (December 4, 2025) -- The No. 3 Tufts University women's soccer team saw its historic 2025 season come to an end on Thursday evening in the 2025 NCAA Division III Tournament semifinals, as the Jumbos fell behind early to No. 2 Emory University and were unable to get back into the game in falling to the Eagles 3-0 in action from Kerr Stadium on the campus of Roanoke College.
Despite the loss, the Jumbos finished the season with an 18-2-3 record, matching the program record for victories in a season while getting back to the NCAA Final Four round for the second time in three seasons and fourth time overall.
Tufts was never really able to work itself into the game as Emory came out quick and took control of the game with a goal 3:10 into the contest on the 12th of the season from Mikayla Camp. Following the goal, the Jumbos would start to dominate possession but could not break down the structured and organized defense of Emory.
In the eighth minute, Tufts had three straight corner kicks but wouldn't be able to get a good shot off. The best chance for the Jumbos in the first half came in the 38th minute, as junior
Reese Birch had her attempt fly over the cross bard from just outside of the box.
The possession and momentum continued into as the Jumbos fired five shots in the first 12 minutes of the second frame. The best chance for an equalizer came in the 56th minute, as Birch ran through on goal but her attempt was smothered by Emory keeper Sophia Birch.
Minutes later, first-year
Claire Brady got some room on the right side of the box, but her shot also whizzed just high of the cross bar. The Eagles (21-1-1) would get an insurance goal at the 58:02 mark of the game as Madison Teng ripped a shot from 30 yards out off the right post and in to make it 2-0.
The Jumbos came right back and had three opportunities on goal that wouldn't find the net, and Camp doubled her game total with another in the 76th minute to put the game away.
Tufts outshot Emory 14-10 for the game, while posting a 6-2 edge in corner kicks for the game. The Jumbos also had a 54-46 edge in possession in the official stat sheet.
Birch had a team-high three shots for the Jumbos, who were shutout for just the second game of the season.
Junior goalkeeper
Gigi Edwards had two stops for the Jumbos, while Garcia had four stops for the Eagles.
Tufts saw a strong senior class play its final game on Thursday, as the Jumbos will say thank you to seniors
