No. 23 Men's Basketball Shuts Down Lasell Saturday, 87-59

MEDFORD, MA (December 6, 2025) -- The No. 23 Tufts University men's basketball team outscored visiting Lasell University by 21 points in the second half, opening up a seven-point halftime edge to pull away for an 87-59 win over the Lasers in non-conference play from Cousens Gym Saturday afternoon.

The victory was the seventh straight win for the Jumbos (7-2), who had to fight off a pesky Laser squad that wouldn't go away in the opening frame.

Tufts led 39-32 after the first half, using a 10-3 run over the final 4:31 of the opening stanza to lead by seven at the break.

The Jumbos would take its first double-digit lead of the game 90 seconds into the second half on a lay-up by junior Jon Medley, and the Tufts' advantage would hover around 10 points for most of the first five minutes of the second half.

With the score 49-39 in favor of the hosts, Tufts went on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes highlighted by a thunderous alley-oop dunk from senior Sidney Wooten to Evan Reeves to make it 60-39.

Lasell pulled back to within 14 at 63-49 after a triple from Che Hanks, but that was as close as the Lasers would get as the Jumbos pushed its lead up to as many as 29 on a three-point play by sophomore Isaac Friedman in cruising to the victory.

Medley had another stellar night for the Jumbos as he poured in a career-high 21 points while dishing out five assists and adding three steals. Medley was 6-of-12 overall from the floor, making eight of his 10 free throws.

Senior Scott Gyimesi totaled a big double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds, chalking up two steals and four blocks as well as he made seven of his 13 field goal attempts. Joshua Bernstein had six points, nine rebounds and four blocks in 18 minutes, and James Morakis came off the bench to tally nine points as well.

Friedman netted nine points in just three minutes of action, hitting both of his three-point attempts and all three field goals. Junior Zion Watt had eight points and six caroms, and Wooten posted seven points, four rebounds and four helpers.

The Jumbos dominated inside with a 42-20 edge in the paint, finishing the day with a 48.4 percent field goal clip for the game (30-62).

Tyler Costin had 15 points for Lasell, while Andy Madesko totaled 11 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Tufts will get nearly two weeks off before heading to the 2025 Cruzin Classic in Miami Gardens, Florida, battling Saint Vincent College December 20 at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas College.
