HARTFORD, MA (February 22, 2025) -- The Tufts University women's basketball team fell in the 2025 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) quarterfinals to Trinity College in double overtime 72-64 in action from Ray Oosting Gymnasium.
Tufts (15-10) will now wait and see if its season will continue with the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field on Monday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
The Jumbos led for nearly the entire time in regulation, taking a seven-point edge with 4:14 to go in the fourth quarter after a jumper from
Stella Galanes. Trinity went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 46 with 1:47 to play, but each team made a pair of free throws to send the contest to overtime deadlocked at 48.
Each team had chances late in regulation to win the game, but neither team could convert.
In the first overtime, Tufts led 56-54 with 25 seconds to play and got a stop and rebound to have a chance to ice the game at the line. The Jumbos only made one of two free throws, keeping it a one-score game and Olivia Vick of Trinity made a three at the buzzer to tie the game and force another overtime.
The second extra session was all Trinity, as the Bantams pulled away for the win.
First-year
Monet Witherspoon had a team-high 20 points for the Jumbos, adding nine rebounds for the Jumbos. Senior
Sofia Gonzalez had 19 points and nine caroms, while Galanes finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
Graduate student
Callie O'Brien added four points, five rebounds and five assists, while
Siobhan Stapleton played a career-high 31 minutes to finish with five points and four boards.
Trinity got a 25 points from Vick, while Madi Forman had a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
