Women's Indoor Track and Field Maintains Winning Ways at Triangle Classic

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (February 22, 2025) - The Tufts University women's indoor track and field team saw continued success in multiple events at the Springfield College Triangle Classic on Saturday.

Senior Sarah Firth started the day in a huge way, cracking her personal best in the pole vault with a massive mark of 3.92m for first place in the event. It was a new personal record by a centimeter and the new fourth best mark in the NCAA Division III. Lena Tang was just behind her teammate in second, recording a 3.55m vault for a new personal best as well.

The field events continued with the Jumbos dominating the standings. Jordan Andrew took first in the long jump with a leap of 5.60m. Hot on her heels was Elysse Cumberland who took second place with a 5.57m jump for a new personal record. Nora Jean-Jacques was not far behind in fourth with a mark of 5.15m. Andrew and Cumberland finished in first and second respectively again in the triple jump, with Andrew's 11.75m and Cumberland's 11.74m being personal bests for both athletes. Lexi King took first place in the high jump with a 1.61m.

Ceci LaBarge maintained Tufts' triumph over the competition, as she finished first in the weight throw with a new personal best mark of 15.41m. Jackie Wells took second in the same event with a throw of 14.61m. Wells made it a pair of personal records soon after, tossing for 11.63m in the shot put.

The women's 4x400m relay saw the squad of Annika Kral, Makayla Moriarty, Emma Smith, and Arielle Chechile take first place with a time of 3:55.14. Julia Dolce kept the hot start to the track events with another win for Tufts, this time in the 1000m run. Her 3:07.50 was a new personal best to add to the strong day.

First year Logan Elie took second place in the 800m run with a 2:25.93, just ahead of classmate Avery Kerr in third with a 2:26.61. It was Kerr's first attempt at the 800m in a collegiate competition. First year Nina Corso concluded the day for the Jumbos with a fourth place finish in the 400m run, setting a new personal best time of 1:02.48.

The Jumbos will have a week to enjoy and build off of their strong performance before they head to the TRACK at New Balance for the Division III New England Championships on Friday at 10:00 am.
