Women's Track Sits in Second After Day One of Division III New England Championships

BOSTON, MA (February 28, 2025) - The Tufts University women's indoor track and field team closed out the month of February with a strong showing at day one of the Division III New England Championships. The TRACK at New Balance saw the Jumbos sit second out of all competing teams after the first day of competition.

Beginning with the field events, the Jumbos began with strong showings in the pit. Jordan Andrew and Elysse Cumberland leapt to fourth and fifth place respectively in the long jump, setting the tone for Tufts on the day. They were separated by just three centimeters as Andrew finished with a mark of 5.39m and Cumberland a 5.36m.

Sarah Firth finished fifth in the pole vault with a 3.67m, earning the Jumbos points in the team total in the final field event of the day.

On the track, Elizabeth Donahue and Zoe Margolies finished in the points in the longest event of the weekend, the 5000m run. Donahue took fifth with a 17:41.57 and Margolies in eighth with a 17:58.23.

Carly Rinko earned the only individual podium place on the day for Tufts with a second place finish in the 1000m run. Her finish in 2:59.56 was a personal best, and was her first sub-three minute time in the event.

Emma Smith took fourth place in the 600m dash with a new personal best time of 1:37.25 before Arielle Chechile took fourth in the pentathlon. The relays saw more of the same strength flexed by the Jumbos, as the team of Kral, Moriarty, Cumberland and Lawal took third in the 4x200m relay with a 1:42.45. The distance medley relay was the final event the Jumbos would score team points in, as the team of Whitehouse, Meek, Elie and Henisz took sixth.

The Jumbos will finish competition in the Division III New England Championships tomorrow at The TRACK beginning at 10:00 am. The Jumbos currently sit in second place out of 21 scoring teams.
