MEDFORD, MA (March 1, 2025) -- The No. 15 Tufts University women's tennis squad got its 2025 spring season off with a bang on Saturday, as the Jumbos knocked off both Nichols College 7-0 and Division I Stonehill College 6-1 in action from the Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center.
Match 1: Tufts 7, Nichols 0
The Jumbos got the day going in the right direction during the morning match against the Bison, as Tufts swept the doubles to earn the doubles point.
First-years
Athena Li and
Brooklyn Bindas paired together at No. 3 to knock off Cora Brosch and Erin Helly 6-0 for their first dual match wins of their careers. The clinching point in doubles came at the No. 1 position, as first-year
Melanie Woodbury and junior sister
Stephanie Woodbury picked up a 6-2 win.
The final doubles' match continued on and Tufts'
Steffy Jullian and
Sophie Wax picked up a nice 6-3 win at the No. 2 position.
Leading 1-0 going to singles, Tufts continued its momentum as Wax was a double winner with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Johanna Schroeder at the No. 3 spot. Junior
Rachel Cranley upped the Tufts lead to 3-0 at No. 1, as she earned a strong 6-0, 6-2 win over Kamora Helton in a very entertaining match.
The clinching win for the Jumbos came at No. 4 singles, as first-year
Nadia Khera took down Charis Vogler 6-3, 6-1 for the victory. The winning continued even after clinching the match, as junior
Nikki Kintiroglou bested Pamela Gonzalez 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2, while first-year
Ryan Wuhrman bested Helly in a clean sweep, 6-0, 6-0.
The final victory of the match for Tufts came at No. 5, as transfer
Evelina Anastasi dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Brosch at the No. 5 spot.
Match 2: Tufts 6, Stonehill 1
The Jumbos rounded out the first day of the spring season with another win later in the afternoon, topping Division I Stonehill College 6-1.
The Skyhawks (5-6) picked up the first match at No. 1 doubles, as Anneliese Beltran and Julie Holte topped Woodbury and Woodbury 6-4. Tufts would battle back though, as
Lucy Mitchell and Cranley evened doubles at one with a 6-1 victory to put the ooubles' point in the balance at No. 3.
In the final doubles' outing,
Ellie Gershaw and Kintiroglou outlasted Arya Chabria and Lilah Shallcross 7-5 to send Tufts into singles leading 1-0.
Tufts took a 2-0 match lead after a dominating effort at No. 2 singles, as
Melanie Woodbury rolled past Beltran 6-1, 6-2. Li was also a straight set winner at No. 4, as she topped Madison Warren 6-1, 6-2 to make it 3-0.
The clinching victory would come at the No. 1 position, as Gershaw shook off the many slices and lobs from Holte to pick up a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top spot. Stonehill's lone win was at No. 3, as Shallcross topped Mitchell 6-1, 6-4, but Tufts rebounded with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 by Wax for her third overall win of the day.
The last match to end for the day was at No. 6, and Khera topped Alice Brito do Rio 7-5, 6-1 for her second singles' victory Saturday.

The Jumbos (2-0) will finish their very busy start to the season, taking on Wheaton College and Bryant University Sunday afternoon at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Gantcher Center.
