CLAREMONT, CA – The third-ranked Tufts University men's tennis team continued its strong start to the season with a commanding 6-1 victory over No. 24 NC Wesleyan on Tuesday at the Pauley Tennis Complex on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
In doubles, Tufts secured the point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Derin Acaroglu and Lachie Macintosh fought through a tight 7-5 win at No. 2, while Sacha Maes and Nico Tremblay dominated their match-up with a 6-1 victory at No. 3.
Acaroglu and Macintosh moved to 4-2 on the season this spring, while Maes and Tremblay are now 2-2 so far on the season.
The Jumbos set the tone early in singles play, winning five of six matches in straight sets. Vuk Vuksanovic dominated at No. 1, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Diego Segovia.
Maes and Eren Cheung were equally dominant at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, each cruising to 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 wins, respectively. Acaroglu and Andrej Djokic also delivered key victories, with Acaroglu battling to a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3 and Djokic rolling 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4.
Tufts will take on No. 19 Johns Hopkins University Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Claremont, CA in the final match of the Spring Break trip for the Jumbos.
