Men's Tennis Tops Hopkins In 6-1 Win To Finish Spring Break Trip

CLAREMONT, CA (March 19, 2025) -- The third-ranked Tufts University men's tennis team continued its stellar season with a commanding 6-1 victory over No. 19 Johns Hopkins University Wednesday at the Pauley Tennis Complex at Claremont-Makenna College. The Jumbos were in control from the outset, sweeping the doubles matches before delivering a dominant performance in singles play to secure their eighth win of the season.

Tufts (8-1) set the tone early in doubles, with the top pairing of Vuk Vuksanovic and Javier Gonzalez cruising to a 6-2 victory over Hopkins' Dylan Blenkiron and Daniel Ardila. The momentum carried over to the second and third courts, where Lachie Macintosh and Derin Acaroglu clinched a 6-3 win, while Nico Tremblay and Sacha Maes closed out the sweep with a 6-4 victory at No. 3. The Jumbos' ability to control the net and capitalize on key points put them in the driver's seat heading into singles play.

Tufts wasted no time extending its advantage, with Vuksanovic delivering a clinical 6-2, 6-0 win over Ardila at No. 1 singles. Gonzalez followed suit with an equally dominant 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Rajendra at the No. 2 spot, showcasing his consistency and aggressive baseline play.

At No. 5, first-year Stavros Mastrogamvrakis put in a rock-solid performance, dispatching Allen Gong 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the team victory, while junior Alex Ganchev sealed the team victory with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 6, overcoming a tight opening set before pulling away.

The match of the day came at No. 3 singles, where Acaroglu battled through a three-set thriller against Blenkiron. After splitting the first two sets, the Tufts senior held his nerve in a marathon super tiebreaker, edging out a 15-13 victory to add to the Jumbos' tally.

Johns Hopkins managed to salvage a point at No. 4, where Zahari Stoimenov outlasted Andrej Djokic in another three-set battle, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. But by that point, Tufts had already secured a resounding win.

Tufts will now return home to take on No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus College Saturday at 2 p.m. in non-conference play at Voute Courts at the Tufts Tennis Center.
