Women's Tennis Stays Unbeaten This Spring With Wins over Southwestern, UMHB Tuesday

BELTON, TX (March 18, 2025) -- The No. 14 Tufts University women's tennis team extended its win streak to nine matches to start the 2025 spring campaign on Tuesday, as the Jumbos earned a pair of 7-0 sweeps during their spring break trip with wins at Southwestern University and University of Mary Hardin Baylor. 

Match 1: Tufts 7, Southwestern 0
The 14th-ranked Tufts University women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, shutting out Southwestern University 7-0 at Henderson Courts.

The Jumbos set the tone early in doubles play, sweeping all three matches in dominant fashion. Rachel Cranley and Melanie Woodbury were flawless at No. 2, blanking their opponents 6-0, while Natalie Hu and Stephanie Woodbury cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 1 to clinch the doubles' point. Nikki Kintiroglou and Lucy Mitchell wrapped up the sweep with a strong 6-2 victory at No. 3.

In singles, Tufts continued its dominance, winning all six matches. Nadia Khera was unstoppable at No. 5, delivering a perfect 6-0, 6-0 performance.

Sophie Wax and Nikki Kintiroglou added comfortable wins at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively, as Kintiroglou's win cliched the victory for the Jumbos. At the top spot, Melanie Woodbury overcame a tight first set to power through 7-5, 6-0, while Evalina Anastasi and Ellie Gershaw closed out the sweep with hard-fought victories at No. 6 and No. 2.

Gershaw is now 8-3 on the season, while Melanie Woodbury's win was her 11th of the season, tops on the team. 

Match 2: Tufts 7, UMHB 0
The 14th-ranked Tufts University women's tennis team continued its dominant road trip with another commanding 7-0 victory, this time against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center.

Tufts took control early in doubles play, sweeping all three matches for the second time Tuesday. Brooklyn Bindas and Sophie Wax were flawless at No. 2, blanking their opponents 6-0. Ryan Wuhrman and Nikki Kintiroglou followed with a 6-1 win at No. 3 to earn the doubles' point, while Athena Li and Natalie Hu sealed the doubles point with a strong 6-3 victory at the top spot.

In singles, the Jumbos continued their stellar play, winning every match in straight sets. Natalie Hu was dominant at No. 2, delivering a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win. Athena Li controlled the top singles match-up, rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 victory, while Sophie Wax clinched the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 3.

Brooklyn Bindas, Evalina Anastasi, and Steffy Jullian all added strong performances to secure the shutout. Jullian and Wax stayed undefeated this season in singles, while Anastasi moved to 4-0 this spring. 

Tufts has now gone 46-8 in singles' play during its nine-match win streak, winning 85.2 percent of singles' outings.

The Jumbos will take on No. 1 University of Chicago Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Georgetown, Texas on the campus of Southwestern University.
