BRISTOL, RI (March 2, 2025) -- Senior attack
Margie Carden netted her 200th goal Sunday afternoon, the first Jumbo women's lacrosse player to accomplish the feat, as the No. 2 Tufts University women's lacrosse team bested Roger Williams University 20-7 in action from Bayside Field.
Carden scored twice on Sunday afternoon to get her career total to 201, as the program's leading goal scorer netted her 200th with 1:55 to play in the first half to put the Jumbos up 13-5. She later scored six minutes into the second half to extend her program-record goal tally.
The senior was one of 11 goal scorers for the Jumbos (2-0) on Sunday, as Tufts led 5-3 after the first quarter as
Caroline Conaghan and
Madeline Delaney each had two goals in the frame.
The Tufts offense would explode in the second quarter, netting eight scores including two from
Allie Zorn and senior
Ella Lesperance to make it 13-5 at the break.
The lead would hover around 10 for the majority of the remainder of the game until sophomore Schyler Lloyd started a four-goal run to end the game which featured the first career goals from first-years
Annie Bergeron and
Anna Mollahan.
Zorn finished with four points on three goals and an assist, adding a ground ball, and Conaghan had three goals and a helper along with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Delaney finished with three goals and four draw controls in the win, while Carden, Lloyd and Lesperance all recorded multi-goal games. Senior
Kate Mastrobuono had a goal and assist, while
Genna Gibbons tallied a great game with a goal, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and five draw controls.
Sophomore
Emily Leschin also forced three turnovers and picked up three loose balls, and senior goalkeeper
Pascale de Buren had 10 stops and three ground balls. Junior
Nicola Donlan and first-year
Neta Leschly each also posted two loose ball pickups and a forced mistake.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Sophie Powless came in to play 8:35 while stopping one shot and allowing no goals, and first-year
Devon Chipman made her collegiate debut with a save in 4:35 of game action. Tufts outshot Roger Williams 41-24 on the day, while posting a 26-20 edge in ground balls. Tufts was also 4-for-8 on free position shots.
Kimmy Creegan had two goals, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and eight draw controls for the Hawks in the loss.
Tufts hosts Endicott College Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. on Bello Field in more non-conference play.
