NEW LONDON, CT (March 22, 2025) – Tufts University Coed Sailing finished eighth of 10 teams after the first day of the 64th Jan Friis Team Race held at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Saturday.
The teams first competed in a round-robin against each other where the Jumbos had a 3-6 record. Tufts had its wins against Brown University, College of Charleston and the University of Vermont. The losses came versus Boston College, Coast Guard, Harvard University, Roger Williams University, Stanford University and the University of Rhode Island.
In seventh place out of the 10 teams after the round-robin, Tufts moved on to a Bottom 4 round where they faced the eighth-, ninth- and 10th-place teams. Tufts had a 2-1 mark there, defeating Vermont and Charleston and losing to Brown.
With a 5-7 mark from the two rounds of racing, Tufts was tied with Brown. The Bears won a tie-breaker for seventh place based upon total points scored when the tied teams met.
If time and conditions allow, the top eight teams which includes Tufts will next compete in a Quarterfinal Knockout Series on Sunday. The #8 Jumbos would go against #1 seed Boston College in a best two out of three series. Semifinal and Final Knockout Series would continue on from there.
