NEW LONDON, CT (March 23, 2025) – The Tufts University coed sailing team lost in the quarterfinal round to Boston College at the 64th Friis Trophy hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Sunday.
After placing eighth in yesterday's action, the Jumbos had a seventh and eighth seed sail-off today against Brown University to start Sunday racing. Tufts lost the one-race contest to become the eight seed.
Facing #1 seed Boston College in the Quarterfinal Knockout Series, the Jumbos were very competitive in forcing the Eagles to a third race in the best two out of three. Boston College won with a 1-2-3 finish in the first race, then Tufts evened the match with 1-3-5 finishes in the second round. Boston College won the quarterfinal with 1-2-5 scoring in the third contest. This eliminated the Jumbos from the regatta.
Roger Williams University and Stanford University were the two finalists with Roger Williams winning two out of three to earn first place at the regatta.
The Jumbos finished with a 6-9 record for the weekend to take eighth place.
