MEDFORD, MA (March 8, 2025) -- Junior attack
Jack Regnery continued his blistering offensive assault on opposing teams going Saturday afternoon the home opener for No. 1 Tufts University men's lacrosse, as he tied the single-game goals record with nine tallies as the Jumbos raced past visiting Trinity College 27-9 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play from Bello Field.
The game was not in question for much of the afternoon, as Tufts (2-0, 2-0 NESCAC) led 4-0 before the Bantams ever had an established offensive set. Regnery opened the scoring 61 seconds into the game, followed quickly by scores from
Cam Delcristo,
Max Ettinghausen and
Charlie Tagliaferri to Tufts up 4-0 with 10:30 to go in the first frame.
The goals continued to come for Tufts as
Harrison Stockdale scored a beautiful tally off a feed from Regnery to make it 5-0 before Trinity (1-2, 0-2 NESCAC) got on the board at 7:37 of the opening frame. Junior
Brooks Hauser started another three-goal run for the Jumbos with two goals in 1:40, followed by
Beau Keough's third of the season to make it 8-1 with just under five minutes to go in the first quarter.
Tufts would build its lead up to 14-5 in the second quarter after two more from Regnery and the second of the season from sophomore
Will Emsing, eventually leading 14-6 aat the half.
The third quarter would be the Regnery show, as he scored three goals in the first nine minutes, including three highlight reel strikes to make it a 20-8 lead. His ninth and final goal of the game came with 6:25 to go in the third, as he stuck a corner from 15 yards out with a rocket as part of a six-goal run by Tufts. During that stretch, senior
Joey Kraft scored two straight gorgeous goals, and first-years
Beau Ryan and
Charles Barzun netted their first goals as Jumbos to close the scoring for the Jumbos.
Regnery tied Dave Perry at the top of the single-game goals' list, as Perry netted nine against Regis (Colo.) back on March 16, 1996. Regnery scored his nine on 13 shots on goal, while adding three assists as well. The 13 points in a game also ties the single-game record at Tufts, as he tied Dan German (MIT, 1977) and former teammate Jack Boyden, who tallied 13 in wins over Amherst College and Stevens in 2023.
Tagliaferri finished with six points on a goal and five assists, and Hauser tallied two goals, two assists and two ground balls. Emsing, Ettinghausen and Kraft each had two goals, as 21 different players had points for Tufts.
The face-off group was once again dominant for the Jumbos, as
Parker Merril was 12-for-17 with seven ground balls while junior
Erik Helgeson was 8-for-13 and scored his first collegiate goal as well.
Chris Tsetsekos was 4-for-4 with three loose balls and
Victor Salcedo had a light day but was also 3-for-3 with two grounders.
