No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Stays Unbeaten With 19-6 Win At No. 15 Trinity

HARTFORD, CT (March 8, 2025) -- A busy stretch of four games in eight days finished on Saturday afternoon with the No. 2 Tufts University women's lacrosse team staying unbeaten, pulling away from No. 15 Trinity College for a 19-6 win in play from Robin L. Sheppard Field in New England Small College Athletic Conferenc (NESCAC) play. 

The Jumbos (4-0, 2-0 NESCAC) never trailed in the game, and scored 10 of the first 12 goals to take a big lead in the second quarter. Trinity stopped the run with 2:12 to go, but Margie Carden, Allie Zorn and Caroline Conaghan netted three goals just before halftime to make it 13-3 at the break.

The Bantams opened the second-half scoring but Carden started a 4-0 stretch for the Jumbos that finished at 11:21 of the fourth quarter with Tufts up 17-4. Carden would tack on two goals late for good measure to finish the scoring. 

Tufts had eight players with multiple points on the day, led by the five points apiece from senior Ella Lesperance and Zorn, as each had two goals and three assists. Lesperance was stellar on defense as well, causing three turnovers while picking up five ground balls. Carden netted four goals to go with one assist, picking up three loose balls and tallying two draw controls, and Conaghan had four goals and two ground balls. 

Sophomore Schuyler Lloyd finished with three points on two goals and an assist, causing two turnovers and adding two draw wins, and Madeline Delaney finished with a goal, assist and four draw controls. Sophomore Grace Hammont also had a goal and assist, and graduate Emma Joyce had two goals and three ground balls. 

Senior defender Genna Gibbons continued her strong play on the draw with five controls, and Nicola Sommers had two caused turnovers as well. First-year Neta Leschley also picked up four ground balls, a career-high, and Pascale de Buren stopped six shots while playing the entire 60 minutes in the win. 

Grace Denious had two goals to lead the Bantams (2-1, 1-1 NESCAC). 

Tufts is now off for a week before hosting Hamilton College March 15 on Bello Field in league play.
