NORTHAMPTON, MA (April 12, 2025) - Mother Nature missed the memo. The Tufts University women's track and field team competed in the Snowflake Classic two weeks ago, yet a few inches of snow blanketed the ground this morning of the Carla Coffey Invitational at Smith College. Despite the less-than optimal conditions, the Jumbos performed well in a busy day two over in Northampton.
Kicking off the day with a podium in the 5000m run was junior
Mia Corso. Her personal best finish of 19:01.81 landed her in third, just ahead of fellow junior
Vivian Lau in fourth. Lau's finish was just under 20 seconds behind Corso, taking the position with a 19:20.63 in the only track event the Jumbos competed in on the day.
Over on the field, first year
Mia Kurtz led off the day with a win in the discus throw with a 39.24m. The rookie kept her fantastic start to the season going, setting a personal best in the hammer throw with a 42.34m for sixth, and landed ninth in the shot put.
Ceci LaBarge took second in the hammer throw, also setting a personal best with a toss of 49.12m. The sophomore clearly enjoyed breaking personal records in the face of hard weather, and set a new personal best in the javelin with a 24.16m for eighth. She also took the same position in the shot put with a 9.72m.
Senior
Liz Graham was just behind LaBarge in the hammer throw, taking third with a 43.65m. The battle-tested senior took sixth in the shot put as well with a 9.78m to lead the Jumbos.
Rounding out the day was a set of wet jumps, with first year
Ava DePrizio taking sixth in the long jump, and sophomore
Sarina Khani taking fifth in the high jump.
Tufts will return to their home track to host the Tufts University Sunshine Classic next Saturday, April 19 at 10:00 am.
