AMHERST, MA (April 14, 2025) - The Tufts University women's track and field team sent a small contingent out west to Amherst to compete in the UMass Julie LaFreniere Commonwealth Invitational.
First year
Makayla Moriarty led off the day with a fifth place finish in the 400m dash. The rookie runner finished in a blistering time of 57.57, taking fifth in a field of Division I, II and III competition.Â
Fellow first year
Arielle Chechile took third place in the 400m hurdles. The rookie set a new personal best time with a finish in 1:03.57.
Junior
Lexi Dean took fourth in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 11:34.92 to miss out on a personal best by less than 10 seconds.Â
The 4x400m relay team of
Annika Kral,
Emma Smith, Moriarty and Chechile took second in their tight race. They finished in 3:55.42, just two tenths off of their season best time.Â
Senior
Jordan Andrew and the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Triple Jump Champion
Elysse Cumberland took the top two spots in the triple jump to end the day. Andrew jumped to first with a 12.02m, missing her personal best by a single centimeter. Cumberland was just behind her in second, finishing with an 11.96m. Cumberland also took 14th in her first go at the 100m dash.
Tufts will return to Ellis Oval for the Tufts University Sunshine Classic this coming weekend.
