LA CROSSE, WI (May 22, 2026) – Tufts University sophomores
Lauren Zipoli in the heptathlon and the 4x100-meter relay team of
Cameron Stanton,
Makayla Moriarty,
Arielle Chechile and
Elysse Cumberland all achieved second-team All-American status on Friday at the NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Zipoli had been 19th in the heptathlon standings through four events on Thursday. She moved up to a 16th-place finish today with a final score of 4655 points. The All-American second team award (ninth through 16th individual finishers) is her first.
Starting Friday with the long jump, Zipoli PR'd with a 5.75m (18'10 ½") mark that was second among the heptathletes. It moved her up to #6 on Tufts' all-time list in the event. She followed with a 33.17m (108'10") javelin throw, fourth among the field, that lifted her into 10th place overall in the competition for the time being. She finished with a 2:33.11 PR in the 800 meters, which put her 16th in the tightly-grouped final multi-event standings.
The 4x1 was without its anchor, as junior
Simi Lawal has a nagging hamstring injury which unfortunately kept her out of action today. Stanton, who traveled to the meet as an alternate, filled in admirably in the lead-off role and was followed by Moriarty, Chechile and Cumberland. They ran a 47.07 for seventh in their heat and 11th overall, and the third-best time ever at Tufts. They were just 0.16 from qualifying, with Colby's 46.91 time taking the ninth and last spot in the final.
Though they did not advance to the final, each member of the Jumbo foursome earns a second team relay All-American honor (ninth through 12th finishers). It's the first All-American award for Stanton, the third for Moriarty, Chechile's fifth and Cumberland's seventh.
Lawal qualified for today's 100 meters, but did not start due to the injury. She finishes an outstanding season in which she established new school records in the 100 meters (11.66), 200 meters (24.67) and with the 4x1 (46.37), as well earning the Sabasteanski Award as the Most Outstanding Performer at the NESCAC Championships, which Tufts won.
Through two days, Tufts has scored eight team points which has them tied for 14th place.
On Saturday, the third and final day of the Championships, Tufts has junior
Jackie Wells in the javelin throw preliminaries and final (2 PM), Cumberland in the triple jump preliminaries and final (2 PM) and Chechile in the 400-meter hurdles final (3:15 PM).
