MEDFORD, MA (April 18, 2025) - The Tufts University women's track and field team performed well in day one of the heptathlon at the Tufts Sunshine Classic on Friday afternoon as the four Jumbos were the only four competitors in the event.
The 100m hurdles saw first year
Lauren Zipoli finish in the lead. Her time of 15.73 was just three hundredths ahead of fellow first year
Arielle Chechile with a 15.76. First year
Cameron Stanton trailed just behind in third with a 16.09. Sophomore
Tessa Player rounded out the event with a 16.27.
Zipoli finished first once again in the high jump, finishing with a mark of 1.48m. Chechile took second with a 1.45m, Player was third with a 1.42m and Stanton finished fourth with a 1.36m.
Player finished first in the shot put for her best result of the day. She was the only Jumbo to land a throw greater than 10m, tossing for a mark of 10.18m. Chechile trailed behind in second with an 8.53m while Stanton took third with an 8.05m and Zipoli in fourth with a 7.57m.
The final event of the day saw Chechile take the top spot on the podium. She finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 25.40, a whole second ahead of next-best Zipoli with a 26.56. Player finished third with a 28.32 to round out the day.
It was a successful start to the Sunshine Classic for the Jumbos, as they look to continue their strong finishes on day two tomorrow.
