WATERVILLE, ME (April 26, 2025) – Continuing their dominant spring season, the No. 3 nationally ranked Tufts University men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep over #66 Colby College on Saturday afternoon at the Alfond Recreation Center.
The Jumbos (18-1, 9-0 NESCAC) were sharp from the start, taking early control of the match by winning all three doubles contests to secure the first point of the day. The No. 1 pairing of junior Javier Gonzalez and sophomore Vuk Vuksanovic powered through Colby's top duo of Jason Daly and Diego Sosa, winning 6-1. At No. 2, senior Alex Ganchev and freshman Sacha Maes matched that performance with a 6-1 win of their own, while the third doubles team of senior Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and junior Derin Acaroglu wrapped up the sweep with a 6-2 victory.
Carrying a 1-0 lead into singles play, Tufts continued to roll. Gonzalez delivered a dominant performance at No. 2 singles, breezing past Sosa 6-0, 6-1 to quickly double the Jumbos' advantage. Moments later, Garv Bahl added a third point for Tufts with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Aidan Kwong at No. 4.
Vuksanovic, playing at the top of the lineup, sealed the match for the Jumbos with a composed 6-4, 6-2 win against Daly at No. 1 singles. With the team result already secured, Tufts didn't let up, as Mastrogamvrakis earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Josh Kaplan at No. 5 singles, and Maes followed suit with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
The afternoon closed with a hard-fought battle at No. 3 singles, where Ganchev edged Marco Ziets-Segura in a first-set tiebreak, 8-6, before pulling away for a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 win to complete the clean sweep.
With the victory, Tufts improves to 9-0 in the NESCAC and remains one of the hottest teams in the country, extending their win streak to eight matches. Saturday's win also marked the team's seventh sweep of the spring season.
The Jumbos will now turn their attention to a pivotal regular season finale, as they return home to host Amherst College on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Voute Tennis Courts. The match will have major implications for NESCAC Tournament seeding, and the team will honor its seniors prior to first serve.
