MALDEN, MA (April 5, 2025) - The Tufts men's rowing team hosted the first Malden Racing Series on Malden River Saturday. The Jumbos rowed against Trinity College and U.S. Coast Guard Academy in a round-robin format.
The event featured three of the top five teams in the IRCA/IRA Men's Collegiate Rowing Preseason Poll with #2 Tufts, #3 Trinity and #5 Coast Guard. The Jumbos earned a 5-3 record in eight first varsity through fourth varsity races, led by two wins apiece from the third varsity and fourth varsity.

Theo Balavoine split their two races. They were edged by Trinity College in a 5:31.7 time to the Jumbos' 5:37.7 mark (times are off due to a timing error). Later against Coast Guard, Tufts won by a length with a 5:58.4 finish to 6:02.0 by the Bears.
The Tufts second varsity was 0-2 on the day with a loss to Trinity (6:02.5 to 6:07.5) and then they were unable to finish the race versus Coast Guard. The Jumbos 2V8 lined up with coxswain

Hayden Stone posted two significant victories. They came across the finish line in 6:08.2 to defeat Trinity (6:18.4) by 10 seconds. Against Coast Guard the Jumbos' 6:12.3 mark was a good distance in front of Coast Guard's 6:39.0 finish.
For the 4V8 races, Tufts again had ample winning margins. They topped Trinity 6:12.6 to 6:25.6, then were over a minute ahead of Coast Guard (6:23.4 to 7:29.0). The Jumbo team was coxswain

The Jumbos also had three fours in action today. First rowing against Trinity's fifth women's eight, Tufts' 4V timed 7:04.0 to the Bantams' 7:24.2.

Nina Suhrbier then stepped in as coxswain with the same four rowers later in the day for a 7:09.3 mark that came against Tufts' fifth women's varsity (7:39.9). A third Jumbo four (coxswain

Asher Lefkoff and
John Wilson) closed the day with a 7:09.5 time against Tufts' women's fifth eight again (7:34.5).
Tufts will be back at Malden River to host Bates College, Marist University and Wesleyan University next Saturday.
