CLINTON, N.Y. (April 5, 2025) - The No. 2 ranked Tufts University men's tennis team took a thorough win over Hamilton College with a 5-2 victory on the Continental's home court on Saturday.
Javier Gonzalez and
Vuk Vuksanovic kicked off the day with a rousing win over the doubles pair of Antonion Chavez and Connor Griff in the number one doubles match. The pair of Jumbos cruised to a 6-3 win over the contesting duo of Continentals, setting the tone for the rest of the day.Â
Tufts encountered a bit more resistance in the number two doubles, as the pair of
Alex Ganchev and
Sacha Maes fought for a 6-4 win over Anson Anderson and Tarun Korwar to clinch the doubles point. The number three doubles saw the only loss for a Jumbos duo on the day, with the duo of
Derin Acaroglu and
Lachie Macintosh coming up just short to Eerik Aadamsoo and Lleyton Mendieta, 4-6.Â
The singles saw Vuksanovic resume his strong performance from the doubles earlier in the day. Â Â Â The Tufts number one took the first game from Connor Griff 6-2 before the Continental battled back for a 6-3 win to even up the match. Vuksanovic won the tiebreaker with a 6-3 finish to conclude his day, and put the Jumbos ahead 2-0.Â
In the number two singles match, Acaroglu fought for a tight win over Mendieta, taking the first game by a narrow 7-6 score. The second game wound up with an even 6-6 score, forcing a tiebreaker. Acaroglu clutched up to defeat Mendieta 7-2 in the tiebreaker to win the second game 7-6.Â
Macintosh suffered the only defeat in regulation to Korwar. After taking the first game 6-3, the senior faltered in the next two games 3-6 and 4-6 to fall to the Hamilton number three.Â
Anson Anderson would win the second and final singles point for the home team after winning by opponent withdrawal in the number four match, evening the score at 2-2.Â
Maes would right the ship in the number five match, taking the match versus Aadamsoo with a 6-4 win in the first game and a 7-5 win in the second.
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis finished the day for Tufts with a clinching win in the number six singles, defeating Chavez 6-4 and 6-2 to cap a strong day for the Jumbos and give them the win 5-2.Â
They will return to action at Trinity College (Connecticut) tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm to round out another weekend of NESCAC men's tennis play.
