CAMBRIDGE, MA (April 6, 2025) - The Tufts University coed sailing team ended up in seventh place out of 12 teams at the 2025 New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Team Racing Championship on the Charles River Sunday.
The Jumbos started Sunday as one of eight teams to advance to the second round-robin of the regatta. They had a 7-4 mark in the first round on Saturday to get them into the second round.
In the second round today, Tufts won once (MIT) and lost six times (Harvard University, Yale University, Roger Williams University, Dartmouth College, Boston College and Brown University).
Combining the two rounds, Tufts had an 8-10 overall mark for the two days which gave them seventh place. Yale University won the Fowle Trophy which goes to the NEISSA Team Racing champion with a 20-3 mark.
Four different teams sailed for Tufts today. Junior skipper
Ben Mueller was with sophomore crew
Cody Lamoreux, while sophomore
Wyatt Bischoff skippered with senior crew
Cindy Wang (five races) and senior
John Eastman skippered with Wang as crew twice. Sophomore skipper
Kurt Stuebe and sophomore crew
Sean Beaver also competed.
New England Team Racing champion Yale earns the conference's automatic berth into the upcoming Intercollegiate Sailing Association Team Racing National Championship (April 24-26). Tufts and other teams have a chance at receiving at-large national berths which will be announced soon. The Jumbos gained a national berth as the ninth-place team in New England last year.
