WORCESTER, MA (May 11, 2025) – The Tufts University men's rowing team won the Points Trophy at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) today on Lake Quinsigamond.
Representing the best overall team performance at the regatta, Tufts tallied a 170.00 score in the Points Trophy to defeat conference rivals Williams College (163.00) and Trinity College (159.00). It's the second time Tufts has won the NIRC Points Trophy including 2017. The Jumbos had been second for the NIRC Points Trophy last year and third in 2023.
The NESCAC Championship was also contested today in first varsity racing. After winning the third heat with a 5:49.035 mark to get into the grand final, the Jumbos were third overall among 18 teams and third out of eight conference squads with their 5:41.930 finals time. It marked the Tufts 1V8's first podium finish (top three) at NIRC. In the conference, they were behind Trinity and Bates College and in front of Williams and Wesleyan University.

The Jumbo second varsity was second out of 16 teams total today. They had been second in their heat at a 5:57.798 mark across the 2000-meter course. In the grand final, the Jumbos timed 5:53.659, behind only Williams (5:50.975) and in front of teams from Wesleyan, Trinity and Bates.

The Jumbo third varsity raced to a third-place finish out of 12 teams. They were second in the first heat at a 5:58.896 time, close behind Wesleyan (5:57.698). In the grand final, Tufts' 5:59.227 again trailed Wesleyan (5:53.197) and Hobart College as well (5:56.719).

Tufts won a great battle against Williams in a straight fourth varsity final which included seven teams overall. The Jumbos' 5:59.079 nipped the Ephs' 5:59.185 time in a photo finish. It's the second consecutive NIRC win for the Jumbo 4V8. Tufts' winners were coxswain

Tufts also had a pair of fours that both won their heats today. The V4A timed 7:04.240 to win the first heat, while the V4B won the second heat in a 7:09.816 mark. In the grand final, the Jumbo A team won in 6:48.161 while the B four was fourth in 6:51.665 time. There were 16 total teams.

The Jumbos will now await word on an at-large berth into the ITA Division III Championships, which will be held May 30 to June 1 in Camden, New Jersey. The announcement will be made on May 20.
