NEW LONDON, CONN. (May 2, 2025) - The Tufts University women's track and field team finished day one of the Division III New England Championships in first place with a commanding nine point lead after a great start in New London at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
The first individual points for the Jumbos came in the 5000m run. Sophomore
Katya Henisz set a new personal best with a third place finish in 17:23.91. The time landed her the 77th best mark in the NCAA Division III and an All-New England award.
First year
Makayla Moriarty took seventh place in her preliminary heat of the 100m dash, setting a new personal best with a 12.26 finish. Sophomore
Simisola Lawal was just behind her in eighth finishing in 12.31. Both times earned the runners spots in the 100m finals tomorrow at 1:20 pm.
Nyla Thompson took third place in the pole vault with a personal best mark of 3.55m. The new record for the senior set the 55th best jump in the NCAA Division III.
Lena Tang also scored points for the Jumbos with her seventh place finish with a 3.40m. Both athletes vaulted themselves onto the All-New England roster with their finishes.
Sophomore
Jackie Wells took second place in the javelin with a 38.62m to finish just ahead of her first year teammate
Harper Danforth, who finished fifth with a 37.41m. Once again, a pair of Jumbos landed on the All-New England roster.
First year
Lauren Zipoli finished day one in second place in the heptathlon, taking third in both the 100m hurdles and high jump. The rookie improved her standing with a second place finish in the 200m dash to finish day one with 2518 points.
Tessa Player chases behind Zipoli in fourth with 2374 points.
The Jumbos will resume competition in New London tomorrow at 11:30 am as they look to defend their first place standing.
