The IRA DII champion is determined by the combined results of the first and second varsity races.

For the first time at the IRA Championships, Tufts will also have a varsity four in action. It's an event that any IRA-eligible school can enter and the Jumbos will be one of 39 teams competing from Divisons I and III. The teams will row a time trial on Friday at 11:30 AM, and then depending on results will be placed in a semifinal race on Friday afternoon. The finals for the event will be held on Saturday morning. Tufts' team is coxswain Lucas Resnik, Alex Flynn, Abe Nelson, Ethan Seidner and Hayden Stone.

Coached by George Munger, the 2025 Tufts University men's rowing team earned an at-large berth into the IRA's for the fourth straight year. This is the 122nd IRA National Championship, as it is the oldest college rowing championship in the United States. For the first time ever it included a Division III Championship in 2022. The Jumbos have received IRA berths in all four years since the DIII Championships were instituted. Tufts was one of seven teams that earned the inaugural DIII berths and they finished as the national runner-up. The 2022 IRA's included only first varsity eight racing. In 2023, second varsity eight races were also held in Division III. The Jumbos were fifth in both the 1V and 2V races and in the team category. Last year, Tufts won the second varsity IRA race, and the first varsity was third, helping the Jumbos tie for second place overall.

In the May 21, 2025 IRA DIII poll, the Jumbos were #3 in the first varsity rankings and #2 in the second varsity. For 1V8, Trinity is the #1-ranked team, with other IRA entries Bates at #2, Williams at #4, Wesleyan at #5 and Colby at #6. Among the 2V8's at IRA's, Williams is #1 in front of #2 Tufts with Wesleyan #3, Trinity #4, Bates #5 and Marietta #6. The ITA Team Points rankings have the Jumbos at #2 behind top-ranked Trinity with Bates third.

The 2024-25 Jumbos earned the at-large berth following their third-place finish in the NESCAC Championship which was determined by first varsity racing at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC). The 1V8 was third overall at NIRC, helping the Jumbos win the Points Trophy at the regatta. Tufts' second varsity was the NIRC runner-up. At the New England Rowing Championships, the Jumbo first varsity was fourth while the second varsity advanced to the grand final which was canceled due to unsafe conditions.
