Tufts' Seventh at Open Fleet Race Nationals is Program's Best in 11 Years

ST. MARY'S, MD (May 30, 2025) – Tufts University finished seventh at the 2025 Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Fleet Race National Championship which finished on Friday. It's the Jumbos best performance at the national regatta since they were fifth in 2014.

After no races were held on Thursday due to a lack of wind, the race committee was able to get seven starts in both A and B division today. Tufts had a 57 score in A's and 63 in B's for a 120 total that landed them seventh.

The A division team of junior skipper Ben Mueller and first-year crew Kate Castleberry and the B division duo of sophomore Kurt Stuebe with senior crew Cindy Wang both finished seventh in their groups.

For A's, Mueller and Castleberry had three top-five finishes today including a fourth in their final race. Stuebe and Wang were second in today' third race for the best Tufts finish of the day. They also had a sixth in the sixth race.

Stanford University won the ICSA Open Fleet Race title with a 34-25-59 scoring line.

This wraps up the 2024-25 Tufts University sailing season, its second under head coach Johnny Norfleet.
