MANCHESTER, CT (September 6, 2025) – Starting seven first-years in their season-opener, the Tufts University women's cross country team won the George Suitor Invitational hosted by Trinity College at Wickham Park this morning.
The Jumbos had all five scorers finish in the top 10 individually to compile a team score of 36. They were ahead of second-place host Trinity College (53) and third-place Westfield State University (80) out of eight teams overall.
First-year
Lily Simmonds led the Jumbos in fifth place individually with a 20:22.00 time over the five-kilometer course. Two seconds behind Simmonds was sophomore
Grace Doyle with a 20:24.00 finish for sixth overall. The Jumbos had the fifth through eighth finishers in a row, as first-year
Lauren Downer ran 20:25.90 for seventh place, and sophomore
Samara McVey crossed the finish line in 20:31.30 for eighth place. Rounding out Tufts' scoring five was first-year
Zui Chinchalkar (20:40.60) who was 10th.
The Jumbo line-up was also sprinkled with veterans, led by senior
Vivian Lau in 13th place at a 20:50.30 time. Also in the top 20 for Tufts out of 98 total finishers was first-year
Kayleigh Forde (20:51.60) in 15th place.
Seniors
Eliana Montgomery and
Gwenyth Stach were back-to-back in 21st (21:14.60) and 22nd (21:15.90), respectively. Likewise, first-years
Mia Bratti and
Alanna Jacob had back-to-back finishes with Bratti at 21:38.10 (28th) and Jacob at 21:52.50 (29th). First-year
Cori Stewart ran 22:42.10 as the 45th-place finisher.
Tufts is idle next week and returns to action on September 20 at Williams College's Purple Valley Classic.
