Skidmore Knocks Off Tufts Women, 67-63

MEDFORD, MA (January 3, 2026) -- The Tufts University women's basketball team team lead by 10 early in the fourth quarter, but visiting Skidmore College scored 23 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 67-63 non-conference win over the Jumbos in action from Cousens Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Jumbos (7-5) led 54-44 after the first possession of the fourth quarter, as Annie Ryan drilled a three-pointer but Skidmore's Sara Hastie answered right back with a triple. That three-pointer by the Thoroughbreds would start a 12-0 run for Skidmore over the next four minutes, as a three-point play by Hastie gave the Thoroughbreds a 56-54 lead at the 6:25 of the final period.

Tufts tied the score at 56 after two free throws, and kept it to within one possession until the 1:17 mark of regulation as Hastie hit a three-pointer to make it 64-60 but Ryan nailed another triple to make it 64-63 with just over a minute left. Skidmore scored on its next possession and iced the game at the line as the Jumbos would not be able to find a field goal to get closer.

Tufts shot just 22 percent in the fourth quarter (4-18), while Skidmore was 8-of-11 (72.3 percent) in the final 10 minutes.

First-year guard Tessa Lozner led the Jumbos with 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting, adding a career-high seven rebounds along with two steals. Fellow first-year Abby Congdon had 14 points and three rebounds, while Sarah Crossett tallied eight points and three rebounds. Ryan came off the bench to hit 2-of-3 from downtown while scoring eight points, and Annie Aspesi had five points and five rebounds.

Tufts shot 39.7 percent offensively, including a hit third quarter where it shot 62.5 percent, going 10-of-16 overall. The Jumbos also out-rebounded Skidmore 34-26, and posted a 14-3 edge in fast break points.

Skidmore had five players in double figures, led by the 16 points from Hastie on 5-of-9 shooting. Sophia Martinez had 14 points as well for the T-Breds, while Madison Meyer and Claudia Schneider each poured in 11 points. Jenny Shine tallied 10 points off the bench, as Skidmore shot 52.9 percent overall for the game.

Tufts will now look ahead to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action next Friday, as the Jumbos host No. 6 Bowdoin College in Cousens Gymnasium.
