BOSTON, MA (January 30, 2026) - Sophomore
Arielle Chechile broke the school record in the 200 meters, and the 4x400-meter relay became the second-fastest indoor foursome in school history as the Tufts University women's indoor track & field team competed at the John Thomas Terrier Classic and the Reggie Open on a busy Friday.
Running on the banked track at Boston University, Chechile had a time of 24.83 seconds to set a new Tufts record in the 200. She was sixth out of 116 entries in the event which featured many Division I competitors. Tufts junior
Simisola Lawal was almost as fast, finishing in 24.92 seconds for eighth place. Both marks were faster than the 25.42 previous record held by Marilyn Allen from 2015. Chechile's and Lawal's times are also top 15 national marks as of Friday afternoon.
Then in the 4x4 later on at BU, sophomore
Makayla Moriarty, first-year
Cori Stewart, first-year
Lauren Downer and Chechile combined on a 3:51.28 time. It is a top-three national mark as of Friday afternoon, with the foursome becoming Tufts' second-fastest ever indoors. They were ninth at the meet.
Adding to a big day for the Jumbos, senior
Liz Donahue ran an 18-second PR in the mile at BU. She submitted her first-ever sub-five minute finish for the mile with a 4:59.37 time. The PR is a top 20 DIII time in the event early in the weekend.Â
Tufts also received an excellent performance from a group of newcomers in the 800 meters. First-years
Kayleigh Forde (2:17.95), Stewart (2:18.16) and Downer (2:18.72) all had times that place among the top 40 in DIII at the moment. Sophomore
Zoe Margolies' 17:50.95 in the 5000 meters at BU was a PR and a top 35 in DIII time, while junior
Deirdre Flanagan, running in her first-ever 3000 meters, timed 10:07.14 fo a top 50 national ranking.
Also at BU today, senior
Anne-Sophie Janssen PR'd in the 400 meters (1:00.13), and junior
Kaya West's 3:01.13 in the 1000 meters was her PR. Senior
Julia Dolce added her mile PR (5:10.92). Sophomore
Logan Elie ran Tufts' first 500-meters race of the year and recorded a 1:21.03 time.
Over at the Reggie Open held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Tufts senior
Lexi Dean won the mile with her 5:12.99 finish. Junior
Nora Jean-Jacques was the second-place finisher in the triple jump (10.45m / 34'3 ½"). Third-place marks were earned by Jumbo first-years
Alanna Jacob in the 3000 meters (11:13.39),
Camille Brand in the high jump (1.55m / 5'1") and
Isabella Romero for the triple jump (10.25m / 33'7 ½").
Sophomore
Lauren Zipoli debuted for the season at the Reggie Open with fourths in the 60-meter hurdles (9.97 seconds) and the long jump (5.12m/16'9 ¾"). Her 9.73 in the hurdles prelims was a PR, while her long jump tied her indoor best. Junior
Lexi King was also fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.55m (5'1").
Additionally, senior
Tamia Dubidad qualified for the final in the 60-meter dash with her 8.50 mark. Sophomore
Cameron Stanton and first-year
Eleanor Lewis both made the 60-meter hurdles final. The 1:06.02 time that senior
Paige Zhang submitted in the 400 meters was a PR.
No team scoring was kept for either of today's meets.
Tufts will continue its busy weekend tomorrow with action at the Harvard Invitational.
