MEDFORD, MA (October 15, 2026) – Five different players scored goals and the Jumbos did not allow a shot attempt as the #1 ranked Tufts University field hockey team earned a 5-0 non-conference victory over the University of New England on Thursday evening at Ounjian Field.
The Jumbos are now 12-0 and extended their school-record winning streak to 17 games dating back to last season. The Nor'Easters lost their third straight game against a ranked opponent and are now 6-8.
First-year goalie Riley Curtin was outstanding in the cage for visiting UNE, finishing with 26 saves. She had 14 stops in the first half to keep the margin within 2-0, before the Jumbos scored twice in the third quarter and again in the fourth to pull away. Tufts finished with a 46-0 advantage in shots (32-0 on goal).
The opening goal came four-and-a-half minutes into the game on the first of Tufts' 17 corners on the night. Senior
Lilly Ragusa sent the insert out to classmate
Claire Casey, who blasted home her sixth goal of the season to get Tufts started.
Casey would then make a key play on Tufts' second goal in the middle of the second quarter. From outside the 23-meter line, she drilled a ball that was double-deflected first by senior
Katarina Villa at the top of the circle and then again for a goal by sophomore Scarlett Carpeter.
Shots were 28-0 and corners were 10-0 at the half, but Tufts' lead was just two due to Curtin's strong play.
Just 45 seconds into the second half, the Jumbo advantage was lifted to 3-0. Sophomore Riley Pearson controlled the ball near midfield and sent it up to Carpenter. She found sophomore
Eleanor Helm entering the circle and Helm drove down the center of the UNE defense and flipped in her 13th goal of the season. She has now scored in nine of Tufts' 12 games.
Later in the third, Tufts junior
Ellie Wilkins scored her first collegiate goal to give Tufts a 4-0 lead. Ragusa had brought the ball into the circle on the left side and tried to feed Helm in front of the goal, but the ball was played away by a defender right to Wilkins. She hammered it home from inside the top of the circle with 6:12 on the third-quarter clock.
Tufts would then add a penalty corner goal to finish the scoring. Ragusa inserted out to Pearson, who settled it for Wilkins, who passed it left to Villa. She slotted it into the far side of the cage with 7:25 remaining.
Goalies
Isabel Ginns and
Molly Hall shared the shutout for Tufts, though neither touched the ball all game. It's Tufts' sixth shutout of the season.
