MEDFORD, MA (February 28, 2026) -- Junior
Chase Beyer finished with a game-high five points Saturday, and sophomore
Jack Old made 12 saves in his first collegiate start to help the No. 1 Tufts University men's lacrosse team to a season-opening 17-8 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play from Bello Field.
Tufts (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) upped its NCAA-high win streak to 29 games with the victory on Saturday, and has now won the last 22 games against Colby dating back to 2007.
The Jumbos wasted no time getting on the board Saturday, as junior
Will Emsing tallied unassisted only 66 seconds into the season to give Tufts the early edge. The lead would double 23 seconds later on a
Brooks Hauser score, while Tufts scored two more times before Colby got on the board at 8:50 of the first quarter.
Senior
Jack Regnery netted his first of the game at 7:28 of the first quarter, as the Jumbos ended up taking a 6-2 edge into the second quarter.
The Tufts defensive unit was stellar all first half, allowing just one goal while scores from senior
Ben Frisoli and Beyer gave the Jumbos a 9-3 edge at the break.
Tufts would pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Colby 6-1 in the third quarter to seal the victory highlighted by a score from senior
Brian Winters.
Beyer scored twice and dished out a team-high three assists, while Hauser led all player with four goals on a team-high 11 shots. Regnery finished with two goals and two assists, adding two grounders, and
Garrett Kelly and first-year
Drew Bossi each had two scores.
Emsing finished with a goal and an assist, and first-years
Jack Donovan scored his first collegiate goal while also posting two ground balls and three caused turnovers. First-year
Tommy McCool also netted his first as a Jumbo Saturday.
Defensively,
Logan Lee forced two turnovers for the Jumbos while sophomore
Davis Owens had five ground balls and a caused turnover.
Harrison Stockdale also aded three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Old had a stellar 12 saves and just four goals against in his first career start, while senior
Victor Salcedo was 7-for-10 on the day with six ground balls at the face-off "X" Saturday. Junior
Lucas De la Paz also had seven face-off wins while picking up two ground balls.
Tufts outshot Colby 55-43 on the day, adding a 39-21 edge in shots on goal. The Jumbos also held a decided 21-8 face-off win mark. Will Heisler had a strong game in net for Colby, making 22 stops as Gavin Rothenberg and Thacher McCoy each had two goals for the Mules.
Tufts takes on Union College Sunday at 3 p.m. on Bello Field in non-conference action.
