BEVERLY, MA (March 1, 2026) -- The No. 3 Tufts University men's tennis team had its first big test of the spring season, and the Jumbos passed with flying colors as they cruised past No. 12 Babson College 6-1 in play from Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly.
The Jumbos (2-0) captured the doubles point after falling behind early after Alex Merson and Maxim Zlobinsky topped
Kaetan Mehta and
Javier Gonzalez 6-0 at No. 2. Sophomore
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and first-year
Jackson Rich helped the rally at No. 3, as they earned a 6-4 win over Max Lidman and Louis Bourn.
At No. 1, seniors
Alex Ganchev and
Sacha Maes outlasted Edward Wang and Sebastian Mendosa 6-4 to help the Jumbos head to singles leading 1-0.
Tufts would dominate in singles, winning at No. 2 through No. 6 in straight sets. Ganchev knocked off Wang 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot, while senior Andrej Dkokic topped Mendoza at No. 3 6-1, 6-1. Junior
Garv Bahl improved to 5-1 on the season with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Zlobinsky at No. 4, and Maes also secured his second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.
At No. 6, Mehta won his second singles' match in as many days with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lidman.
The victory marked the 24th straight win in the series over Babson, as Tufts has won every meeting since the series started in 1994-95.
Tufts will now ready for another tough non-conference battle, taking on No. 30 MIT Friday afternoon, March 6 at 4 p.m. in Cambridge.
