NEW LONDON, CT (March 15, 2026) – The Tufts University coed sailing team won the Southern New England Team Race hosted by Connecticut College on the Thames River which finished on Sunday. The Jumbos moved up to first place after sitting second through Saturday's racing.
In two round robins over the two-day regatta, the Jumbos finished with a 9-3 record for first place. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy team placed second with an 8-4 mark.
This is Tufts' first win in a team racing event since the 2022 team won this same regatta four years ago.
After posting a 5-2 record for second place on Saturday, Tufts won four of their five races today to compile the 9-3 overall mark. The teams from Connecticut College and Northeastern did not compete on Sunday after taking part on Saturday. The Jumbos' wins today came against MIT, Coast Guard, Yale and Tulane (by a perfect 1-2-3 score). Tufts' only loss today was versus Roger Williams.

The Jumbos will be at a pair of team race events next weekend (Mar. 21-22). They will travel near, for the Jan Friis Team Race at Harvard, and far, to U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for the KP Open Team Race.
